One of the most important things that happens to Nathaniel is that he finds a piece of paper in a hidden basement in PaPa’s house. On that paper this is written:

In this life we can let our imaginations influence the world – or we can let the world influence our imaginations. This single line that I came up with early on while writing the first draft has really become the theme of the entire book and the following series. It is so important to guard our hearts and minds against people with corrupt and foul imaginations. It is so important that I am writing a series of novels based on that idea and fleshed out in story form so that, that message will have a great impact.
